I love the show and Timothy’s work in general. As a native Texan, I must say that hat of his Must be professionaly shaped. Once done the brim should turn up like a smile and will completely add to the authenticity of his character. Best of Luck with the show!

Love the wardrobe! You did a great job putting together a REAL version of the combination of classic western lawmen and man of “today”. The hat he is wearing??? Who is the maker and what is the color? Gotta have it. Things are still done the right way in some parts of our great nation. Raylan my be fictional here, but JUSTIFIED gives notice that the law can and IS being brought down on crime the “old fashion” way. God Bless the USA

Love it, Love it, Love it! Did I say how much I love the show and the wardobe is awesome…of course the guy in the clothes isn’t too bad either. Timothy is perfect for this role!

WARDROBE! Someone needs to tell Tim the proper way to wear a cowboy hat. Normally, the outer hat band would have the buckle on the left side of the wearer’s head. But, with his hat, the direction of the buckle says it should be on the right side of his head. Further, to tell front from back on just about any quality made hat, the INSIDE sweat band has a small, tied bow to show the BACK of the hat.
In this first episode, the outside head band with the buckle kept switching from left to right.
Hope this helps. Enjoyed the show!

Loved the show, & Timothy’s wardrobe was dead on. Just one problem. Somebody needs to make sure that all the hats being used have the hat bands turned the same way. I noticed close to a dozen changes throughout the pilot episode, as some times the buckle was on the right, & other times on the left. It even changed at least a couple of times during continuous scenes, like when he first arrived at the Lexington office, & then again when he arrived at Ava’s house the first time.

I won’t begin to comment on the hat and how it supposed to be worn, because I am in no way an expert on that type of thing. I know front from back, but didn’t know the issue with the buckle as others have mentioned.
I would like to know which style of Stetson hat it is. I like the forming and the cut of the hat, but was unable to determine on my own, which hat it is, by looking at the Stetson site.
thanks

The hat is definitely a STETSON (by the logo inside the hat), as I noticed this when I watched the Pilot again on the DVR. As for model, I can’t quite pin it yet, but Leonard Elmore notes (via his website) that he cosiders Raylan’s hat to be the classic Stetson “Open Road” Model (made notable by President LB Johnson). I don’t quite think that’s what it is, but who know? It is entirely possibly that this model isn’t being made now and could only be found in the new old stock of retailers, or on eBay.
It’s also notable that Raylan very clearly wears a Rolex watch (looks to be a GMT-Master II or a Submariner with a black face and black background on the bezel) in the Pilot episode. Classy guy. In the second episode he is wearing a different watch (unknown to me) with a lesser tough-guy look, sporting a brown leather band.
His coats are beyond me, but I would be interested to know what they are if anyone knows. His darker jeans in the Pilot (the scene wear he meets Boyd in the church) appear to be Levi’s, with their tradtional stiching pattern on the back pockets.
His boots are also a mystery to me, as we hardly see them up close. The best scene in the Pilot episode of his boots is when he is in Ava’s home, sitting on the couch, talking to her. They appear to be basic leather western-style boots, and I am not good enough to tell the brand. In the teaser trailers and promotions (available on this site) show a frame of what are very clearly Ostrich-print boots with a light brown or tan finish, however there is no direct image of Raylan wearing these boots.
Boots are a very good clue about to the character and status of man, especially a cowboy. Exotics (croc, ‘gator, snakeskin, stingray, and ostrich) are considerably more money and harder to find in modern times, as opposed to tradtional leather. The toe of the boots is also important, as the more distinctive pointed toe which curves upwards, is a sign of a more expensive boot as well. I just hope they are using a domestic brand of cowboy boots (Justin, Double-H, Tony Lama, etc) not some flashy Italian kicks that no self-respecting lawman would wear.
Raylan’s handgun changes are confusing as well. His SigSauer P226 (9mm) is supposedly comfiscated when he shoots the gun runner in the opening of the Pilot. He then carries a 1911 Colt-style gun (looks to be Commander or Officer-sized from the scene when he does a brass-check) which is a more traditional, very old technology, but very reliable and function, and overall bad-ass handgun in the world of modern “plastic” pistols. After he shoots Boyd in the Pilot, this gun disapeers, and he then has a Glock 17 which he appears to carry for the rest of the season. In the second episode when he is held up by the escaped convicts he gives up his back-up weapon, which appears to be a Glock 26, a subcompact or “Baby Glock”.
Personally, I think he should stick with the 1911-style weapon, as it is both more fitting with the cowboy/bad-ass/lone wolf character, as well as being a fresh approach to every other TV cop who has a Sig or Glock.
Please post corrections, I would like to learn what I missed or didn’t see correctly!

For everyone wondering about how the buckle on the hat and why it is switching from left to right, it is a result of the film being flipped around. The hat stays the same, but once in a while, the editors will flip the shot which makes it look like a mirror image. This is noticeable in many old war movies when the medals or patches are on the wrong side of the uniform.

for all you hat lovers out there, i found a very similar cattleman’s hat to the one marshall givens wears. the only differences i’ve seen are that this one curls subtly on the sides and the buckle is slightly different but both can be fixed. You also can’t beat the price on this hat compared to a real stetson which could run you at least a 100 dollars. let me know what you guys think, i wish i could post pics of my Raylan costume for ya’ll to see!
what happened to the wardrobe clip? was the best thing you had going on this sight. i’m from the south, and feel that these folks look REAL! bring back more info on the clothing for this show please!

it really matters what style hat you wear so long as it fits you properly and it compliments your face. rylan’s hat fits the shape of his face so if your face is THIN with prominent cheekbones and forehead with sharp chiseled features then yeah go for it. if your face is ROUND and FAT then forget it, his style hat aint gonna do you any good and go find another style. remember that the hat never wears the man its the man that wears it.
Can anyone give me any information on Raylan’s horseshoe ring?? I want to buy my husband one…
Thanks!

Hi Adriane,
I’ve been looking for Raylan’s ring too. The closest that I have found are these two on ebay. They look pretty much identical to Raylan’s ring except that the side bands have braids on them, which I feel is actually a decent addition to the overall design.
I personally purchased the 1st one because I think it looks better, but I won’t know until I get it in the mail. Also, for some reason, the 1st one is a couple of dollars more expensive than the 2nd one, even though the 2nd one is slightly bigger and weigh 1g more.
I hope this helps!

I know of how to obtain that ring. Email me – tim AT technicalsupportsystems.com
The quality is decent, and the ring feels hefty. The design looks as good in person as it does on the auction page. The ring feels pretty true to size, but I think it fits just a tad bigger than what it is marked as.
My only complaint is that the back of the front of the ring is hollow. That is, the horse shoe and the braided part of the ring is not solid, but hollow. I think this is something the seller should have stated or should have shown a picture of, so that the buyer is not surprised when he/she receives the ring.
Does anyone know what kind of holster he is using? I have checked similar like Galco and HBE, but have not seen one as nice. Since “24″ will be gone, I’m looking at replacing the show with “Justified”. I think it’s almost as good if not the same.

Can anyone tell me the brand name for the suits he wears?
I am sure they are custom tailored, but I really like them (it’s about time I grow up and own a suit and I really like how his suits look – not that they would look that cool on me, but I’d like to start there at least!)
Thanks!

I actually think that a two-tone glock is a great modern update to the cowboy look. It emphasizes that it is 2010 and he isn’t a cowboy but a old school us. marshal.

I like Raymond J. Barry (Raylan’s father) accent. It’s sounds like the ol’ Pa Kettle from “Ma and Pa Kettle” with draws and slides in the accent. Also, as much as I love Kentucky I wish Raylan would get transfer around the states abit. Until he wears out his welcome, of course. Or is the show just limiting itself to a let’s say a, “Breaking Bad” of just six seasons at the most?

In regards to the Horseshoe ring, I purchased one over two months ago off of eBay from the seller, Silvermania. It is an awesome sterling silver ring, is not hollow on the backside, and only cost $16.99. Here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370345308890&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
